I draw inspiration from Swiss Design of the 1950s and the Grunge Movement of the 1990s. The challenge of merging the almost invisible minimalism of the Swiss with the grit and texture of Grunge is the foundation I try to build my work on. As I start a project, I pull from the traditions of my diverging influences. I like to develop concepts in real–time, and let the work unfold in front of my eyes. Like a scientist digging for fossils, I uncover what I’m working on. I like to think that they already exist and that I’m chipping away at the canvas until I reveal each piece in its entirety. As I work, I decide to favor one path over the other between my influences. I look at this as an attempt to balance control over chaos.
